In 2016, The Alaska State Library became a participant in the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).  The program is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities with technical support from the Library of Congress and is designed to digitally preserve and provide free access to historical newspapers from across the United States. Researchers can freely access historical newspapers in Chronicling America, the text-searchable online database at Library of Congress.

As of August 2022, the Alaska State Library will have digitized at least 310,000 pages of Alaskan historical newspapers representing Alaska regions and special interest groups, ranging in date from 1898-1963.
